“Fear not” is among the most repeated instructions in scripture, which tells you something about how often it needed saying.

Notice what almost never accompanies it: an argument that the danger isn't real. Joshua is told to be strong and of a good courage while facing an actual army. Isaiah's promise concerns passing through the waters and through the fire, not around them. The reason given is never that the threat is imagined — it is always that someone is going with you.

Paul's line to Timothy is worth sitting with. He does not say fear is sinful. He says the spirit given instead is one of power, love, and a sound mind — three things fear tends to take first.

«No temas» es una de las instrucciones que más se repiten en la Escritura, lo cual dice bastante sobre cuánta falta hacía.

Fíjate en lo que casi nunca la acompaña: un argumento de que el peligro no es real. A Josué le mandan esforzarse y ser valiente frente a un ejército de verdad. La promesa de Isaías habla de pasar por las aguas y por el fuego, no de rodearlos. La razón nunca es que la amenaza sea imaginaria: siempre es que alguien va contigo.

La frase de Pablo a Timoteo merece detenerse. No dice que el miedo sea pecado. Dice que el espíritu que se nos ha dado es de fortaleza, amor y templanza: tres cosas que el miedo suele llevarse primero.
