Hope in the Bible is not optimism. Hebrews defines faith as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen — a definition that assumes, rather than denies, that you cannot currently see the thing in question.
Jeremiah 29:11 appears on a great many posters, usually without its address. It was written to people already deported to Babylon, in a letter telling them to build houses there and settle in, because they would not be going home soon. The promise of a future is real, and it is not a promise of rescue this year.
Lamentations is the more honest place to start. It sits in the middle of a book of unrelieved grief and says that mercies are new every morning — not that the grief has lifted, but that the supply has not run out.

La esperanza en la Biblia no es optimismo. Hebreos define la fe como la sustancia de lo que se espera y la demostración de lo que no se ve: una definición que da por hecho, en vez de negar, que ahora mismo no puedes ver aquello de lo que se habla.
Jeremías 29:11 aparece en muchísimos carteles, casi siempre sin su destinatario. Se escribió a gente ya deportada a Babilonia, en una carta que les decía que construyeran casas allí y se instalaran, porque no volverían pronto. La promesa de un futuro es real, y no es una promesa de rescate este año.
Lamentaciones es el lugar más honesto para empezar. Está en medio de un libro de dolor sin alivio y dice que las misericordias son nuevas cada mañana: no que el dolor se haya ido, sino que la provisión no se ha agotado.
