Ephesians 2:10 uses a word worth pausing on: we are his workmanship. The Greek behind it gives us poem. Whatever else the verse claims, it treats a person as something made deliberately rather than assembled by accident.
Proverbs 19:21 is the sober one: there are many devices in a man's heart, nevertheless the counsel of the LORD shall stand. It does not say your plans are worthless. It says they are not the deciding factor.
Micah answers the question more directly than anything else here. What does the Lord require of thee? To do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly. Three things, none of them a career.
