Psalm 119 gives the image the whole site is named for: thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. A lamp at your feet lights the next step and not the whole road, which is a more modest promise than it is usually taken for.
Proverbs 16:9 states the tension plainly: a man's heart deviseth his way, but the LORD directeth his steps. Planning is not discouraged. It is simply not the last word.
Isaiah's picture is of a voice behind you saying this is the way, walk ye in it — heard when you turn to the right or the left. The guidance in that verse arrives after the wandering starts, not before.
