Paul says he learned to be content, which is worth dwelling on. He does not present it as a temperament he happened to have. It was acquired, and the sentence before it tells you the curriculum: hunger and plenty, abundance and need.
1 Timothy sets the bar startlingly low. Having food and raiment — clothing — let us be therewith content. Whatever else that is, it is not the standard most readers apply to their own lives.
Hebrews grounds contentment somewhere other than circumstance. Be content with such things as ye have, it says, and then gives the reason: for he hath said, I will never leave thee. The argument is not that you have enough. It is that you are not alone.
