Bible verses about

Anger

Bible verses about anger, temper and being slow to wrath

Ephesians 4:26 says something most readers skip past: be ye angry, and sin not. Anger is not forbidden. What follows is a time limit — don't let the sun go down on it — which treats the danger as duration rather than the feeling itself.

Proverbs is practical to the point of bluntness. A soft answer turns away wrath; grievous words stir it up. The whole mechanism is described in one sentence, and it puts the outcome in the hands of whoever speaks second.

The comparison in Proverbs 16:32 was provocative in its own time. In a culture that honoured the taking of cities, ranking a man who rules his own spirit above a conqueror was not a gentle thought.
